IDEA GPRS settings for android in Bangalore

Uncategorized

I'm an Idea cellular subscriber, but this procedure should be simillar for other Android users as well.
i got it from this link which also has the settings for users in Pune.

So here's the manual configuration procedure for Bangaloreans(my device is the Samsung Galaxy 3, but this should work for all android devices):
Step1 – On the Home screen>Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>menu>New APN>
(just ignore the other ones that might be there.
note: don't edit an existing one, make a new one, its faster(you only need to type in two words and leave the rest as is).

Step2 – Here enter Name as "idea" (or "stupididea" or anything you want to identify the network, no one cares)

Step3 – under APN enter "simplyinternet" (simplyinternet without quotes or spaces, all lower case).
and your done  …. seriously…don't belive me 🙄 , fine read on.

Step4 – Leave other fields like proxy, port, Username, Password, Server,MMSC, MMS Port as default which will be <not set>. MCC will be 404, MNC as 44 and authentication type<not set> and APN type .
that's it go to menu and save

Step5 – press the back button, press the lil dot next to your new Access Point's name so it becomes green.

Step6 – go back to home screen, you'l see the lil "E" icon in the middle of the top bar.. thats the Edge/GPRS icon

Step7 – if you don't see that "E" logo or if you still can't access the net, just reboot.

see its that simple, i told you we were done at Step3 didn't i? but you had to read the whole thing anyway..

Such a simple procedure, don't understand why the Idea customer care, or even the "nodal officer" could'nt give it to me over the phone! they insisted i just head all the way across town in person and get it setup at one of their service/help/outlets/whatchamightcallem.

update:
lost gprs for a few days.. had to reflash to get it back..
it automatically got some settings somehow. these might work for those of you having problems

set Name to Idea gprs
and APN to internet
leave everything else as is..

also try enabling or disabling "packet data"

update (28/3/2011)
According to Abhinav- with the LG P500 optimus one the MNC should be kept 56(which is default for it)
thanks for the info abhinav

If this post helped you, then(if you can)

  4. @Animekh just drop by the idea outlet or do a bit more googling. in future don't leave your number on random blogs, you might just endup getting loads of telemarketing calls

thanks for that bit of info, will be useful for LG P500 users.. will add it to the blog post

  16. actually on my LG p500 MNC is 805. I tried creating a new apn with MNC as 56 but it wouldn't save. I think the MNC is related to the Network Operator. I'd recommended that you just enter the name & apn and let the system take care of the rest.

my wife had an iphone which i had to jailbreak for it to work in india,. i think everything worked after the jailbreak..(was almost 2yrs back so i don't remember what all i did then) just google it. its not that difficult to do a jailbreak .. and it is fully reversible, so if you find that its not worth it, you can always go and "un-jailbreak" (just do the system restore key combination)

did you try apn "simplyinternet" as well as just "internet"if you did and it still didn't work then ask one of your friends/coworkers if theyl let you try using their vodafone, airtel or anyother sim.. and see if gprs works on those service providers. if it does then your device is fine, its a problem with Idea.if it doesn't work with any sim, then you cna be sure your GPRS is messed up. backup your numbers, and data and then do a reset – go to Settings again, click on "Privacy" and click "factory reset" once that happens try again.. if it still doesn't work, use ODIN to flash the rom yourself check my post on how i did it here – http://my.opera.com/chaitanyak/blog/froyo-on-galaxy-3or look it up for your device on xda forumslet me know if it works out for you

hmm no idea about those issues.. ebuddy works fine for me.. i have noticed signal drops.. usually moving my phone near a window helps.. anyway don't know if its just with my device or with samsung devices, or idea :Pi'm familiar with the headaches caused by IDEA, coz i've had issues getting GPRS to work on all my previous phones – generic nokia, ngage qd, windows mobile and then android.. always had to do a little circus to get gprs to work 😐

the tiny grenn arrow indicates that communication is going out.. from your device.. see if the little orange or red downward pointing arrow appears.. that one means you have incoming data.. ergo a working net connection

only reason i havnt left Idea yet is coz i know first hand that they all suck in some way..(better the enemy i know, than a friend i don't know – old saying) basically each person in my family/friend/work circle has a different service provider ,and have come to me to solve their random problems. i even had to jailbreak my ex's iphone a year ago(but that was not a connectivity issue) .

  39. ": Hey I'm having problems with the twlauncher.. any ideas on how to sort this out?"Use launcher pro.. Its lighter on system resources.. Extends battery life on entry level androids. If your using lp then remember to delete all the extra screens on twlauncher. If you want to stick to twlauncher, restrict yourself to 3-4 screens and only 2 widgets.. More screens and widgets coz stability issues for twlauncher with the i5801

am not familiar with dual sim devices. but according to the comments at this link(yes i googled that for you, your welcome) http://www.askmefast.com/How_to_do_Internet_settings_for_Samsung_Galaxy_Ace_duos_CDMA_and_GSM_Mobile_model_is_SCHi589__I_require_the_settings_for_GSM_Tata_Docomo-qna1980825.htmlapparently if the comments are to be believed, this device does not support gprs/internet for the gsm sim.. only for the CDMA sim.. i know that sounds ridiculous.. 😛

if you tried the solutions in the blog post, then thats all the help i can give you.. just write a stern email like this – http://my.opera.com/chaitanyak/blog/2010/01/05/same-old-idea or http://my.opera.com/chaitanyak/blog/idea-cellular-has-some-ridiculous-ideasand send it to them.. they tend to respond immediately when you send angry emails like that.
